The conference will also feature two Notre Dame alumni. HPS alumnus Erik L. Peterson, currently a visiting assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will present a paper entitled “Joseph Neeedham’s New and Improved Organicism in the Midst of a Growing Reductionist Consensus, 1925-1938,” and Peter Distelzweig, a doctoral candidate in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh and former Notre Dame Philosophy undergrad, will present “William Harvey’s Aristotelian Experimentalism.”
HOPOS was co-founded by Don Howard, Director of the Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values and Alan Richardson of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver in 1990. Prof. Howard has served on the steering committee for the society and now co-edits the journal HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science.
HOPOS is devoted to promoting serious, scholarly research on the history of the philosophy of science. This year marks the 9th Biennial meeting of the society, which will be hosted by Dalhousie University, The University of King’s College, Saint Mary's University, Cape Breton University, and The International Society for the History Of Philosophy Of Science from June 21-24, 2012.
