Biography
I am a philosopher by training, working in the philosophy of technology and as a scholar of 20th and 21st century French theory, with special interest in Foucault and contemporary Continental realism. I completed my Ph.D. in Philosophy here at the University of Notre Dame in 2016, and spent 5 years as an Assistant Professor at Missouri S&T before returning to South Bend. At S&T I worked a lot with engineering students, and am pleased to continue doing so in my current duties administering and developing the Dual Degree Program in Engineering and the Liberal Arts.
Research Interests
In the broadest terms, my own research concerns how we might think about normatively in a thoroughly naturalistic worldview, and how our relationships to different technologies and technical artifacts shape the sorts of agency we might possess. Most recently, I have been interested in the way that Big Data technologies may transform various projects of human self-understanding and self-governance.
