The best solutions for today’s interconnected environmental and human health challenges require bold, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approaches. The GLOBES graduate certificate in environment and society will prepare you to do just that.

The GLOBES graduate certificate program is open to Ph.D., Law, and terminal masters students in all disciplines with interests in environmental, global health, and sustainability research.

Our mission is to:

  • Enhance interdisciplinary graduate education and research across departments, research initiatives, and colleges so that novel solutions to vexing problems can be understood, invented, tested, and implemented.
  • Train today’s graduate students so that they can address tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities in environment and society and compete in an interdisciplinary, professional marketplace.

GLOBES is an interdisciplinary graduate training certificate in environment and society. It offers graduate students (Ph.D. and Masters) in any College the opportunity to supplement their discipline-specific training and interact with an engaged community of scholars who seek new and innovative ways to address environmental challenges facing humankind and the planet.

Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ challenges us to think and act in new, cooperative ways to solve environmental problems for the benefit of humanity and a planet that sustains life. The GLOBES program meets this challenge by equipping graduate students who are interested in environmental, global health, and sustainability research with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary skills that broaden their traditional program of study. Opportunities to obtain cross-training in leadership, communication, and policy encourage participants to explore key environmental challenges from different perspectives. Certification recognizes a student's ability to extend research in new directions, integrate new skills and knowledge, and become an effective communicator across disciplines.
