Biography
I am a biological anthropologist, specializing in human biology, interested in how humans adapt to extreme conditions. My work intersects with human physiology, culture, and evolution. In particular, I am interested in physiological and behavioral adaptations to extreme cold climates as well as adaptations to extremes of physical activity. My research follows two main tracks assessing: 1) the range of biocultural coping mechanisms among reindeer herders in Finland, and 2) the physiological and behavioral mechanisms underpinning athletic performance.
